We have a wonderful partnership with our Parish Priest, Fr Dantus Thottahil and the Parish of St John Vianney's. The ministry of education is one that is shared between parents, teachers and the wider community. As Principal, I will support you in nurturing and promoting the growth of our children as we reflect the life and mission of Jesus, promoting a vibrant spiritual life through learning, prayer and liturgy. My commitment to Catholic Education is lived out through my active involvement in Parish and school life and living out the Gospel values through our words and actions. I have a passion for living out the work of Nano Nagle by working with the poor and marginalised.

St John Vianney Feast Dayhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/St-John-Vianney-Feast-Day.aspxSt John Vianney Feast Day
On Thursday we celebrated our Feast Day. The church was full of our students, staff, parents and grandparents. It was a wonderful celebration and the singing was beautiful from all of our students. I sincerely thank all of our parents and grandparents for joining us today for Mass, Celebration of Learning and a picnic lunch. I thank you for ensuring it was able to be covid safe . I am always grateful to have such a supportive community and parent group. What a spectacular day!

Saint John Vianney is the patron saint of our school and priests and is often referred to as the Cure of Ars. As a young person he instructed other children in catechism and prayer. He was ordained at the age of 29.

When attendance at services was lacking, he went out to the people especially visiting the ill and destitute and administering penance. John Vianney led by example and listened to the confessions of people near and far. He was renowned for charity and love and cherished ministering to people. He was deeply devoted to St. Philomena and erected a chapel and shrine in her honour. When he later became deathly ill but miraculously recovered, he attributed his health to St. Philomena's intercession.

St John Vianney left behind a legacy of faith and was viewed as the champion of the poor. At St John Vianney’s Manly we are a strong community that lives out our Gospel values of Compassion, Justice, Determination, Respect and Service.

Book Weekhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Reading-Opens-Doors.aspxBook Week

Book Week is in Week 7, with the dress-up parade on Thursday 25 August. Children can dress up as any book character or take inspiration from the Book Week theme, ‘Dreaming With Eyes Open’. Reading is dreaming with your eyes open after all, and there is lots of fun when we imagine what character we would love to be. Some easy ideas for costumes this year inspired by the short-listed books: pyjamas for dreaming, bandages for the book A Trip to the Hospital, dusty clothes for the book When the Water hole Dries Up and swimwear for the book Jetty Jumping.

With Book Week this term it is an exciting opportunity to explore the CBCA short-listed books with the children. Our literature focus in library lessons this term is the books from the Early Childhood and New Illustrator categories. There is a wide variety of talented authors, and it is hard to pick which book will be named Book of the Year - lucky I don’t have to make the choice. The children always love to share their preferences and it’s often the book they make connections with that they love. This week, Prep and Year 1 enjoyed Winston and the Indoor Cat by author and Illustrator Leila Rudge. The book explores themes of cats, friendship, change and accepting differences. For those with a cat, there was lots to share! It had a gentle message of treating everyone with respect and understanding that others can like things we don’t and that’s ok. A lovely book supporting our school well-being goal.
