Principal's Welcomehttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/About%20Our%20School/Pages/Principal%27s-Welcome.aspx, Principal's WelcomePrincipal's WelcomeOn behalf of the St John Vianney's school community I warmly welcome you to our school. We have a wonderful partnership with our Parish Priest, Fr Dantus Thottahil and the Parish of St John Vianney's. The ministry of education is one that is shared between parents, teachers and the wider community. As Principal, I will support you in nurturing and promoting the growth of our children as we reflect the life and mission of Jesus, promoting a vibrant spiritual life through learning, prayer and liturgy. My commitment to Catholic Education is lived out through my active involvement in Parish and school life and living out the Gospel values through our words and actions. I have a passion for living out the work of Nano Nagle by working with the poor and marginalised.
Learning and Teachinghttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/Curriculum/Pages/default.aspx, Learning and TeachingLearning and TeachingCentral to curriculum planning at St John Vianney’s Primary School is the Brisbane Catholic Education Learning Framework which sets out the beliefs and values on which learning is based. We educate all to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to shape and enrich our changing world.

Holy Weekhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Easter.aspxHoly Week
Next week is Holy Week, the most sacred time of the Liturgical year as we remember the Passion, Resurrection of Jesus and the events which led up to this. Lent officially ends and the Triduum begins at dusk on Holy Thursday and continues through dusk on Easter Sunday. We cannot separate Jesus’ death from his resurrection; therefore the Church teaches that the Triduum is really one celebration that lasts for three days.

In preparation for Easter, SJV students have been learning about the important events of Holy Week. Classes will lead our school in prayerful reflection in the Church – all welcome.

Year 2S - Palm Sunday - Tuesday 26 March at 1pm

Year 4 - Holy Thursday - Wednesday 27 March at 1pm

Year 5 - The Way of the Cross - Thursday 28 March at 1pm

Thank you to our SJV community for supporting the Caritas appeal through donations in the mission box and participating in the Fish and Chip Friday lunches.

NAPLANhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/NAPLAN.aspxNAPLAN

Over the last two weeks, our students in Years 3 & 5 have been completing NAPLAN. These are online tests that all students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 complete across Australia. We are always preparing our students across the school to be assessment capable learners, through excellent learning and teaching and building their skills and capacity in approaching a variety of assessments. I want to congratulate our students on the calm and confident way in which they approached the assessments. We have really been focusing on:

going slowly and carefully for the first 13-14 questions

reading the questions carefully

using the paper to work out the answers

the skills required to navigate online testing

It is important to acknowledge our teaching staff, support staff and leadership team who have supported each class in a positive way. All parents in Prep to Year 6 can be supporting students to be assessment capable learners at home by using the online subscriptions such as Wushka, Mathletics and Reading Eggs as these give very similar style questions that our students will be exposed to over time.
