Principal's Welcomehttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/About%20Our%20School/Pages/Principal%27s-Welcome.aspx, Principal's WelcomePrincipal's WelcomeOn behalf of the St John Vianney's school community I warmly welcome you to our school. We have a wonderful partnership with our Parish Priest, Fr Dantus Thottahil and the Parish of St John Vianney's. The ministry of education is one that is shared between parents, teachers and the wider community. As Principal, I will support you in nurturing and promoting the growth of our children as we reflect the life and mission of Jesus, promoting a vibrant spiritual life through learning, prayer and liturgy. My commitment to Catholic Education is lived out through my active involvement in Parish and school life and living out the Gospel values through our words and actions. I have a passion for living out the work of Nano Nagle by working with the poor and marginalised.
Learning and Teachinghttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/Curriculum/Pages/default.aspx, Learning and TeachingLearning and TeachingCentral to curriculum planning at St John Vianney’s Primary School is the Brisbane Catholic Education Learning Framework which sets out the beliefs and values on which learning is based. Readers Cuphttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Readers-Cup.aspxReaders Cup
On Monday our Readers Cup team will compete in the Bayside Heat Competition. They have been diligently reading and discussing the set books this term and are well prepared. Excitingly, author Remi Lai of the set text Pie in the Sky, will be the event’s special guest. It is always interesting and perhaps inspiring to hear the background of the book directly from the author. We wish the team all the best for Monday.

Rugby 7s Successhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Rugby-7s-Success.aspxRugby 7s Success

On Wednesday, we had a boys and girls team participate in the Brisbane Catholic Education Rugby 7s. Both teams played well and made it to the Grand Final. The boys' team won and the girls came runners up. All children are to be congratulated on their behaviour, effort and sportsmanship. We are blessed at SJV that our children represent our school with pride and live out our school values.

I always feel proud of our students when they demonstrate such good manners. I have really noticed lately that our children, unprompted, thank our amazing staff for their time and commitment for various activities which I know our staff appreciate, feeling valued for all of the extra activities they provide. At SJV, we provide a large variety of extra-curricular activities for our students with learning, sport and creative arts. It is important to acknowledge that this sits outside the large responsibilities and duties they already do. I also want to acknowledge the parents that volunteer their time to assist at the many events we have and school activities. We can’t offer all that we do without volunteers!

Rosies Winter Appealhttp://www.sjv.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Rosies-Winter-Appeal.aspxRosies Winter Appeal

Given that SJV is currently collecting for the Rosies Winter Appeal, I thought that as a regular volunteer with Rosies, I would take the time to explain a little about the group and what typically happens at a Rosies Outreach.

Started by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (who also run Iona College) the focus of Rosies is to offer friendship to those who are homeless, at risk, lonely or socially isolated. The Outreach runs in several places around Queensland, including here in Wynnum on Sunday, Wednesday & Friday nights as well as a daytime outreach on Mondays.

Volunteers with Rosies are rostered into teams and are asked to help out once a month. Typically, we meet to get the urn hot and pack the van with food, blankets and toiletries an hour before we go out on the street. At the outreach we set up some tables and chairs and offer anyone who comes along a cold drink, coffee, tea or Milo and perhaps something to eat such as noodles, cup-a-soups, biscuits or chocolate. The evening is spent in conversation with people who come because they are often homeless, lonely or socially isolated. Occasionally the stories people share can be confronting and sad, but most often it is an evening of friendly conversation and laughs. For many of the people who visit Rosies, this conversation or even food might be the only ones they have that day.

So thank you to everyone who has donated items to the Rosies Winter Appeal, your generous gifts are certainly used to help those less fortunate right here in our local community.

For the month of June we are asking families to donate the following goods:

Prep and Year 1 - Instant cup noodles (not spicy please)

Years 2 and 3 - Biscuits (due to COVID - individually wrapped if possible)

Years 4, 5 and 6 - Long life milk (any type)

If you would like to support Rosies by purchasing products from their online store, please see the link below:
https://rosiesbeaniecollective.company.site/

If you would like to learn more about Rosies, please see their newsletter https:// rosies.org.au/beta/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Inside-Rosies-Winter-2021-1.pdf
