Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you'll make for your child. While every school offers learning opportunities, Catholic schools provide an education that nurtures the whole child academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

At our school, your child will be known, valued and supported as an individual. We strive to create a welcoming community where students feel a sense of belonging, develop strong relationships and are encouraged to become their very best version of themselves.

Catholic education is grounded in values such as compassion, respect, service, inclusion and justice. These values are woven through everyday school life, helping students grow into confident young people who care for others and make a positive contribution to their community.

Prep students engage with the Foundation Year of the Australian Curriculum which encourages curiosity. In our safe and nurturing environment, children learn through exploration and discovery, supported every step of the way by our caring and supportive teachers. With access to a purpose-built Prep precinct, students build confidence, form friendships and develop the skills they need for a positive and successful transition to Year 1.

To help your child feel confident and excited about starting school, we offer a range of orientation events prior to their first day. These opportunities allow your child and family to become familiar with our school community, meet key staff and begin building connections before their first day. Enrolled families will receive further information about these events closer to the time.

Our school welcomes enrolment applications for all year levels at any time of the year. However, for Prep enrolments we follow a set timeline. The cut off for Prep applications to be submitted is Week 5 of Term 1 the year before your child is due to start school.

We are currently accepting Prep enrolment applications for 2028.

Enrolment offers are made in Term 1, the year before they commence. Where applications exceed available places, families may be offered to join our waitlist.

While St John Vianney's Primary School is a Catholic school, we are open to all families seeking a faith-based education in a welcoming and inclusive community. We celebrate the diversity of the families we serve and invite everyone to participate in and support the Catholic traditions, beliefs and values that guide our schools and enrich the educational experience of every student. Children who are baptised Catholic are given priority of enrolment at Brisbane Catholic Education schools.

Please refer to our Enrolment Policy.

Yes, on-site Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) for children up to 12 years old is available. This service is managed by Catholic Early EdCare. Click here to find out more.

If your child is placed on a waitlist, you will be kept informed throughout the enrolment process. If an availability arises, families will be contacted and offered a place where possible.

Absolutely! In fact, the best way to know whether our school is the right fit for your family is to experience it for yourself.

We encourage families to attend a school tour or Open Day to meet our staff, explore our learning environments, and get a feel for our community. It's a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and see firsthand what makes our school special. You can visit us during Open Week or sign up for a Principal's Tour. Visit our School Tours page to find out more.

We look forward to welcoming you and helping you discover whether our school is the right fit for your family.

Applications for enrolment at St John Vianney’s School will be considered in the following order:

  1. Children who have siblings enrolled in the school.
  2. Baptised Catholic children whose families are living within the boundaries of the Manly/Gumdale Catholic Parish.
  3. Baptised Catholic children whose families belong to other Parishes and who have a suitable reason for enrolling in the school.
  4. Unbaptised children of Catholic families, living in or belonging to the Manly/Gumdale Parish.
  5. Christian children of other denominations whose families value the religious aspect of education.
  6. Children of families whose faith is not of the Christian tradition.

Please Note: Where applicant numbers exceed available places we may request a reference from the Manly/Gumdale Parish Priest/ Administrator; the Parish Priest of another Parish; or the family’s' minister or pastor which will demonstrate their Christian commitment. Enrolment is reliant on a vacancy existing in the relevant year level. When a vacancy exists, order of acceptance follows the above priorities in the first instance. When closer discernment is required in nominating enrolment places, a team consisting of the Principal and Assistant Principal, work collaboratively to discern and allocate placement. Should such discernment still be unable to prioritise candidates, then the order of placement is according to the order (date) of enrolment application.

We are committed to supporting every student to thrive. Our specialist support staff work closely with families to understand each child's individual needs and, where required, develop personalised learning plans and programs that support their learning, wellbeing and success throughout their educational journey.

We believe every child deserves access to a high-quality education. We are committed to keeping our school fees affordable so more families can benefit from a Catholic education, regardless of their circumstances. You can learn more about fee assistance, family and sibling discounts, estimate your school fees, and find answers to common questions by visiting our School fee policy and School Fees and Levies page.
