The Year 5 and 6 students have been engaging in their Civics and Citizenship unit as a
part of the HASS curriculum. Through this unit, the students have been learning about
financial decision making, how these can impact on the broader community and also
how expanding and developing businesses involves making decisions and considering
the trade-offs.To deepen their learning, and make connections to real world contexts, the students
have developed businesses that cater to the needs and wants of SJV’s staff, students
and the wider community. They are gathering market research and are making
adjustments to their goods and services to better cater to their target audience.Your child (Prep – Year 4) will have the opportunity to come to the Year 5 and 6
Business Market Day on Thursday 16th September between 9:00 – 10:50am where
they can purchase some of the products, should they wish, and learn more about the
services available. Some of the incredible products include slices and cupcakes, lip
scrubs, scrunchies and face masks all handmade and designed by the senior students.
While some of the services include dog walking, piano lessons and after school tutoring.
It would be wonderful if your child could support one or two of these business
endeavours (prices range between $0.50 and $10 for some of the services) so that the
Year 5 and 6 students can fully understand the process in its entirety. Please keep an
eye out for a catalogue in next week’s newsletter.
