Music Immersion Program

We recently met with the parents who attended the P & F meeting.  At this meeting I invited some feedback about an immersion program for Years 3 & 4 in 2021. We are considering all students in Years 3 & 4 learning an instrument in Term 1. $50 of the cost would come out of the excursions levy which we currently have and an additional $60 would be charged to all families. The children would have the choice of possibly guitar, drums, singing and keyboard. So over the course of two years they would experience a musical immersion of two instruments. This is based on the most popular instruments currently and moving to a contemporary rock band for next year as opposed to the current format. Students could continue with the user pay model for the remainder of the year. We would be seeking support of approximately $5000 from the P & F for the initial outlay of instruments. This was supported at the meeting.

Research shows that a music immersion program results in student academic gains in numeracy and literacy, it is a great way to introduce an instrument to students at an affordable price, gives all children the gift of a comprehensive music education that includes instrumental music and offers our students an opportunity to develop a new skill.
